Unit 19 – My digital pet 1/2

Now, we will create our own digital pet. It will have blinking eyes, be able to detect, if you stroke it and it will get impatient when it’s ignore for to long.

We can easily make blinking eyes with two LEDs. We just need to cut two long jumper wires.

Instructions

Cut the wires in the middle using scissors (Better, you take an old scissors.)

Now, you have to strip the tips. That video shows how you can do it with your scissors. A real wire stripper of course is more usable. Let your parents assist you if it doesn’t work.

Take care. The yellow wire must be connected to the long leg (anode) of the LED.

Twist the bare metal end of the wire tight around the long leg.

And now to the same with the black wire and the shorter leg (cathode).

It should look like that. Now bend the wires to the back.

Wrap some tape around every connection but take care that both sides don’t touch.

The tape can just be pushed. To the same with the second LED.

Build the following circuit.
